Our newest offering, Don Francisco, is named after Francisco Salgado, the owner and operator of El Diamante farm, at 1400msl in the Jinotega region of Nicaragua. He and his family, wife Blanca Nieve and children, are aggressively growing and improving their farm. Our purchasing and your enjoyment of their harvest is a critical part of their efforts to solidify their livelihoods as coffee producers. A main notation from one of our green coffee buyers, Eli Masem, after visiting during the 2017 harvest was that Don Francisco has expanded more than any other of @goldmtncoffee's partner farmers. He mentioned that Don Francisco has seemed to master the delicate skill of taking loans, promptly paying them back, and succeeding in higher yields and higher quality harvests. The bulk of this funding has been invested in a new truck - allowing them to cut down on the amount of time it takes to get the coffee from the mountain down to the drying beds. Additionally, they have installed solar powered panels on their home, improved their workers’ housing, and improved their coffee processing equipment and infrastructure. The higher altitude and increased cloud coverage on the mountain of Jinotega causes the cherries to ripen at a slower pace, absorbing more nutrients along the way. In fact, because of this cooler climate, Don Francisco’s coffees are harvested almost a full two months later than most of the rest of the country.
